Character Name: Castiel
Series: Supernatural
Bio (personality):
When Castiel is first introduced, because of his nature as an angel he lacks emotion toward human beings and was driven to follow his orders and God’s will. But we find out that he does hold doubts. He especially seems to really go back and forth on his beliefs throughout the series.
And not long after interacting with Dean and Sam from the time when he first showed up, he learned to bond and develop feelings toward these two human beings who seem to be able to do anything, even override Fate. We see that Castiel is without a doubt, loyal to his friends and those he considers family. He even full out rebels against heaven because he strongly believes in Dean and Sam that they will be able to prevent the apocalypse… and they do stop it, despite how grim it ends up looking for the both of them.
Castiel is in short, flat. Emotion wise he doesn’t express much beyond a blank face and at times, confusion. When it comes to interacting with humans, he seems to be able to understand the customs (or most of them anyway). Other times he’s seen as being very awkward and innocent when it comes to performing these customs. Being stripped of his power in UPM, he most likely will return to how he was in Season 5, dealing with human tendencies and the cravings of his vessel. And the longer he is separated from heaven, the less reserved his emotions will most likely be. And even then, those emotions will probably not get in the way when it comes to getting to the real deal.
Even without his powers, along his coldness at times in recent, and also his abilities outside of angelic powers, he may be able to handle himself very well in UPM. It was shown that Castiel is well versed in torture that seems to get him more answers than do Sam and Dean. He also pretty much fist fought with Alastair. Castiel is shown to be willing to do whatever it takes when it came to going up against Raphael, appearing to withholding Sam’s soul from his body and even going behind Dean’s to make a deal with Crowley to instead take heaven back and become the king himself.
History:
Castiel has been around since the beginning of time, since the Big Bang. Castiel was the equivalent of a child when the first complex life form found itself on shore. Told not to step on it, God had big plans for that fish. He was even still young by angel standards when Lucifer had chose to go his own way and stray from Heaven. And over the course of time, Castiel, the Angel of Thursday, became the angel equivalent of a soldier. It’s been implied that Castiel has been stationed with Earth for at least two thousand years while in the same garrison as Anna, who was once his superior, and Uriel.
Dean broke the first seal the moment he began torturing souls in hell, which alarmed the angels and they began to take action. His first appearance in Supernatural was from the time he raised Dean from hell. Dean summoned him up and when he stabbed Castiel with Ruby’s knife, it had no effect. Explaining himself, he told Dean God had work for him. Since Lilith was attempting to break the 66 Seals that would set Lucifer free, Castiel told Dean he was to help stop the 66 Seals. During the course of the season, a number of things made Castiel begin to question his faith. Such one case was Anna, who had at one point cut out her Grace and became a human. This was so she could feel the things humans did and achieve freedom. Anna was one who would tell Castiel that he should start making his own decisions, and that she knew he was beginning to develop human emotions and doubts. This was also largely due to his interactions he had made with Dean since he had shown up.
Around some time angels started to be murdered. Believing it was Alastair, Castiel managed to capture him and recruited Dean to interrogate and torture Alastair for information. The Devil’s Trap malfunctioned and Dean and Castiel was almost killed by Alastair, but saved by Sam with his demon blood powers. Afterward when Castiel investigated the malfunctioning of the Devil’s Trap he found out that his partner, Uriel, was behind it. Uriel was gathering followers for when Lucifer would rise after all the seals broke. When Castiel refused to follow someone other than God, the two fought and Anna showed up to help Castiel and kill Uriel. It’s these things along with his close bond that formed with Dean, that ended up causing him to rebel against heaven and team up with the Winchesters in order to stop the inevitable rise of Lucifer and the apocalypse.
Castiel died fighting against the archangel that showed up when they went to Chuck during the release of Lucifer. However, he showed up later, miraculously alive. Figuring that God had brought him back, he chose to search him out, believing that God may be a surefire way to stop the Apocalypse. Over the course of this season Castiel’s powers began to deteriorate during his search for God as he no longer had strong ties with heaven. When Dean and Sam later die and end up in Heaven, Castiel advises them to attempt to contact an angel named Joshua, who is said to be able to speak to God. But when it’s revealed that God wants nothing to do with them, Castiel chooses to abandon his fate in God. During the face off between Lucifer and Michael that finally occurred, Castiel died by Lucifer after throwing a Molotov of Holy Fire at Michael which sent him back to heaven to buy Dean time in his last minute attempt to stop the apocalypse.
The world was saved and once again, Castiel was resurrected. His power returned, upgraded, to him as well. He returned to heaven, saying that he needed to restore the order in Heaven. Anarchy began to break out in Heaven following the stopping of the apocalypse. Castiel who returned, told the angels that God must have wanted them to be free. But it was Raphael who said that they must put the apocalypse back into motion, and that he would rule. Castiel ended up making a deal with Crowley, who would share the souls of Purgatory with him should they find it. Souls, important as they are, hold immense power that would help Castiel win the civil war against Raphael. In his search for souls to make a “war machine” as Rachel put it, one of Castiel’s followers, it appears that Castiel was working with Balthazar who collected souls as a Crossroads Angel and that Castiel had raised Sam from the cage without his soul.
Quick RP sample:
[ …This definitely wasn’t the Purgatory he had been so desperately trying to open. ]
But… this is a circus, of all places. Here we’ll be forced to follow someone else’s rules. This isn’t freedom.
If anything its back to what it was like before… Only it’s forced and… [ He took in a breath, looking around at his surroundings once more. ] …It is certainly an unwonted environment.
[ There had been a few heavens that looked like this, sure. But none quite this… strange. He’d almost peg it for sinister, but it seemed more sinister in the manner of it being unpredictable.
All Castiel knew right now was that he had to leave as soon as possible. If not… then Raphael…… ]
